as at present with the following additions which they are
willing to accept and which are the most advantageous that
I have been able to obtain:-
(1).
They will be paid in addition
costs to be taxed between Solicitor and client in all
litigation and in all proceedings connected with arbitra-
-tion and resumption in which the Government may be engag-
-od.
(2).
They will be allowed as heretofore
to retain all costs chargeable to the Chinese Government in
respect of extradition casos. Messrs. Dennys and Bowley
will be allowed during the extended term to occupy the
Crown Soliciter's offices, but they will make no claim upon
Government in respect of offices which they had already
rented for themselves as from 1st. January, 1911, in anti-
-cipation of the termination of their connection with
Government.
In view of this arrangement, which
I trust will meet with your approval, it is desirable that
the new Assistant Crown Solicitor should not arrive in the
Colony before the end of August when Mr. Kemp's leave will
expire. There is no candidate in the Colony whom I desire
to recommend for the post, and I enclose the usual paper
